Check smoke alarms now

As the cold weather settles in around us, homeowners are being reminded to check smoke alarms to make sure they’re installed properly and working.

Check the battery on your smoke alarm by pressing the test button (if you can’t reach it, use a broom handle). Batteries should be replaced once a year and the alarm itself must comply with Australian Standard AS 3786-1993.

According to the MFB, if you don’t have a working smoke alarm installed in your home and a fire occurs, you’re 57 per cent more likely to suffer property loss and damage. So get checking now!
