Car parks go solar

France has passed legislation mandating all large commercial carparks in the country to install solar panels, effectively turning millions of square metres of bitumen into major clean energy assets.

Parking lots over 1500sqm will have to cover at least 50% of parking areas and traffic lanes with solar shelters or green canopies. The solar canopies are expected to generate 11 gigawatts of clean power. Image: pv magazine France
