Building approvals bounced back in September, according to new data released this week by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
The figures show that the seasonally adjusted number of total dwellings approved rose 7.6 per cent in September.
The result was driven by a surge of 16.6 per cent in approvals to build apartments or multi-unit dwellings, while the number of approvals to build houses rose 2.8 per cent.
Around the country, Tasmania and South Australia were the only states to record increases (up by 1.6 per cent and 0.4 per cent respectively), in trend terms. Elsewhere, approvals fell in the Northern Territory (down 9.3 per cent), Western Australia (2.4 per cent), Australian Capital Territory (1.8 per cent), New South Wales (1.2 per cent), Queensland (0.5 per cent) and Victoria (0.4 per cent).
