Awards for ‘independent senior’ housing

Master Builders Australia and the Department of Health and Ageing are calling for nominations in the 2013 National Lifestyle Housing for Seniors Awards, recognising innovative design and construction helping older Australians stay in their homes for longer.

Master Builders CEO Wilhelm Harnisch said the awards recognise an important residential lifestyle development as the population ages and the baby boom generation transitions towards retirement.

“The National Lifestyle Housing for Seniors Awards recognise design and construction that address issues such as mobility, accessibility and safety – allowing older Australians to stay in their own home for longer”, Mr Harnisch said.

“Homes entered in this award will be practical, liveable homes that can be easily adapted to the changing needs of older Australians.”

There are two categories for the awards: owner-occupied purpose built detached dwellings and multi-unit development dwellings. The Awards are limited to Class 1 and 2 buildings but may include dwellings set within a complex that provides complementary facilities to support the lifestyle of the residents.

Submissions close 23 August 2013.
