What is your home worth?

Think you couldn’t afford to buy a one-bedroom flat in Palm Jumeirah, Dubai? What about a house in Monaco or the Caribbean, or even a chalet in Switzerland?

The average Australian homeowner could easily buy any of these, according to the guardian.co.uk’s Fantasy Property Finder app, which allows readers to compare the price of their home with property on sale around the world.

There is no doubt, homeowners are invariably curious about ‘other people’s houses’. We like to look, compare and even get ideas for things we could do to our own homes or gardens. But this interactive on the Guardian’s website takes that a little further.

All you need to do is enter the value of your home (converted to British Pounds), then sit back and wander through homes that you could actually afford!

If your house is worth AU$1 million, perhaps you could consider trading it in for a four-bedroom bungalow in the Caribbean, a 3-bedroom waterfront home on a Greek island or a house in the streets of medieval Montenegro.

Love France? You could swap your million-dollar Aussie ‘castle’ for a 9-bedroom farmhouse in Dordogne, or a 1-bedroom apartment in Paris.

It is a lovely fantasy…
