Green the new grey

Could living, moss-covered walls help reduce temperatures and clean the air in our cities? With its new Mosscrete product, Dutch company Respyre applies a bio-receptive layer of recycled concrete to the surface of new and existing buildings, then covers it with a coating of moss spores. After a few weeks the moss grows and spreads across the surface.

The green walls require little maintenance, and as the moss doesn’t have roots, it protects the structure from weathering without making the building damp.
