Australia’s most outstanding new architecture has been revealed this month, in the Australian Institute of Architects’ 2025 National Architecture Awards Shortlist.
Comprising 62 individual building projects from every state and territory (plus two internationally), the shortlist represents the cutting edge in architectural innovation from Australia’s sharpest design minds.
Attracting hundreds of entrants from Australia and overseas, the shortlist encapsulates all aspects of residential, community and commercial building design across 14 categories.
The shortlisted residential projects include Ochre House by MYMYMY Architecture for the COLORBOND® Award for Steel Architecture and NSW’s Reddam House North Shore by AJC Architects and Victoria’s Gunn Ridge House by Kennedy Nolan for Heritage Architecture.
For the Residential Architecture - Houses (Alterations and Additions) Award, the list includes:
- ‘Hotham’ by Austin Maynard Architects,
- ‘Cloaked House’ by TRIAS
- ‘Niwa House’ by John Ellway
- ‘The Stopover’ by Taylor Buchtmann Architecture
- ‘Carlton Cottage’ by Lovell Burton Architecture
- ‘Gunn Ridge House’ by Kennedy Nolan
- ‘Shadow House’ by GROTTO STUDIO
Shortisted for the Residential Architecture - Houses (New) Award, are:
- ‘Ochre House’ by MYMYMY Architecture
- ‘Lagoon House’, Peter Stutchbury Architecture
- ‘Morning Bay House’, Casey Brown Architecture
- ‘New Castle’, ANTHONY ST JOHN PARSONS
- ‘Mapleton House’, Atelier Chen Hung
- ‘Nebraska’, Lara Maeseele
- ‘Hedge and Arbour House’, Studio Bright
- ‘Henville Street House’, Philip Stejskal Architecture.

The Australian Institute of Architects is the country’s peak body for architecture, and the National Architecture Awards are the country’s premier design prize.
The eventual winners of the 2025 National Architecture Awards will be unveiled at the 2025 National Architecture Awards in Canberra on Thursday, 6 November 2025, at The National Gallery of Australia.
