Build it, they will come

We love reading about different homes people build around the world, and this week we found an unusual house in Oklahoma, which made its owners $50,000 while it was being built.

During construction the owner-builders grew tired of gaping sightseers, so they decided to open their home each weekend, charging visitors $1 admission as a deterrent!

After 50,000 undeterred visitors had been through the place, the exasperated owners just locked everyone out.

The reason it was so popular with sightseers is because the house consists of one 96-foot long wall in a logarithmically curved spiral, with (apparently) no internal walls. Designed in 1955 by master architect Bruce Goff for artists Nancy and Eugene Bavinger, the house was awarded the 25-Year Award from the American Institute of Architects in 1987 and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
