An environmental brick in the wall

Ever-increasing urban density around the world makes it more important than ever to consider the flora and fauna that may be displaced when we build our homes and fence our gardens.

As a designer with a background in sociology and interests in conservation, urban planning, environmental and social design, British-based Chooi-Leng Tan is well aware of the problem and has now come up with a possible solution: build a wall they can live in, so we can share the space.

The Brick Habitat wall consists of a variety of brick modules offering perches, shelters, feeders or water baths to be incorporated into the sides of buildings. In Chooi-Leng Tan’s own words, these will “encourage wildlife back into the places they originally inhabited whilst turning our walls into gardens.”
