Approvals to build new apartments tumbled in August, according to data released this week by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).
The figures show that the total number of homes approved fell 6 per cent in August to 14,744, driven by an 8.1 per cent fall in multi-unit dwellings, following a 25.8 per cent fall in July.

In 2024, Brooklyn-based interior designer Taylor Migliazzo Simon announced her ‘unexpected red’ theory in a TikTok video, and as happens with TikTok, the video received millions of views and the theory became ‘a rule’.
Basically, according to Migliazzo Simon, the theory is that if you add ‘anything that’s red, big or small, to a room where it doesn’t match at all, it automatically looks better’. Whether or not you like to adhere to design rules, there is no doubt that a pop of colour – a cushion, lamp or even just door knobs – will add interest to a room.
